Having now offered my perspective on the state of modern humanity and the approach that I wish to take in confronting its faults, I will begin my attempts to tackle the structural elements of Comprachicos and how we can get started with all of this on the practical level and in the immediate present.

As a decentralized collective, Comprachicos consists of many divisions—that is, organized, localized member groups—which may be created by anyone at all insofar as they adhere to the basic set of humanitarian principles and aims herein set forth. Each division is asked to form a unique visual and symbolic identity (not so unlike a sports team) which influences its operations and mythopoetic contribution in a variety of ways. While participants may act in the absence of a division, it is strongly advised that all willing participants attempt to join (or create) such a group, or at least attempt to network with others, especially in the name of organization, efficacy, accountability and community withal. It is my hope that these divisions will eventually number in the hundreds and dot the globe.

While I’ve many ideas regarding the ideal structure and nature of such a collective, the decentralized approach really limits the efficacy of my plotting and I will have little to no way of controlling what becomes of this after it leaves my hands. The most sensible thing that I can do, in that case, is to simplify my vision as much as I am able, breaking everything down to its rudimentary tenets, although I encourage everyone to build upon this base with experimental ideas and create a more complex structure (insofar as it does not go against any of our foremost tenets and convictions). There will be a certain standard to uphold; and over time, as a network develops and democracy takes effect, we will have a better idea of that standard and how to assess the proper (and improper) ways of going about things.

Please note that decentralization is not tantamount to a lack of organization, and even within decentralized systems there can (and should) still exist some form of hierarchy; although that hierarchy is generally decided upon via democratic consensus, or ‘popular vote’, and not via the top-down approach of autocracy (wherein a single authority determines all things). It is considered crucial that each division assigns certain individuals to lead and coordinate the group and its campaigns—which may or not be the group founder—although I hesitate to use such a term as ‘leader’ when describing this position alone, since every participant has the ability to lead within specialized situations and contexts. The term ‘director’ or ‘coordinator’ then seems more appropriate to what I am describing, being that this position entails keeping the team organized, informed and motivated. This individual should also, in most cases, be willing to act as the spokesperson or figurehead of a given division, being that they are likely to contain the fullest understanding of the group and its standing. However, they are not above the rules, being more so responsible for seeing that the rules are codified and upheld.

While I ask that this matter is treated seriously, and while it may be in our best interest to structure each division in the manner of a military force or corporate entity for the sake of efficiency, as in giving out clearly-defined roles and expectations, divisions will commonly constitute a relatively small, localized entity equal in size to the average military squad (which contains 6-10 individuals on average) and therefore I do not feel it too necessary to devise some manual on how divisions ought to be structured, since it is most likely that they will be made up of friend groups, and issues are more easily managed among friends than among co-workers.

Take Rictus Division, for example, which I managed between 2018 and 2019, although I saw myself as less of an authority and more as a competent organizer. There was no contesting my position as everyone involved was aware of one another’s strengths and my organizational skills set me up for such a position—especially when the others were far more keen on getting out and taking a more active and social approach in line with their own individual personalities. The division in question came to be most prominently associated with an attempt to shift the means whereby local art and music scenes operate—a model which, I felt, hadn’t evolved to adapt to changing times and leaps in technology. As so, that which I speak of as ‘operations’ need not entail hacking computers and swinging from chandeliers. In most cases it simply means banding together as a collective in an effort to shift a particular facet of culture via a series of carefully considered steps, and anyone wishing to learn more about the aforementioned endeavor will find a general breakdown within my public archives.

Things may appear very quiet and disorganized in the beginning and you should not allow that to discourage you from participating, for as little divisions crop up here and there, I expect that a network will form naturally over time without requiring any applied force or contemplation. That’s simply the way that it tends to work out, and it can be very exciting to watch it all take effect. However, to prevent abuse of the system and other issues relating to the decentralized format, I strongly advise everyone to be active in networking, as in reaching out to connect with others who share in a similar set of views. This is not a solo mission; this is a community effort and issues could arise if this facet should go underemphasized, leaving us with a result that differs none at all from humanity in its current, disorganized state.

Then, as the collective grows in scope, gatherings and other events may be hosted so as to bring together the network for what would hopefully be not only a meaningful but pleasurable time spent among individuals fighting the self-same battle. We have settled on November 20 as a date of significance to our collective—coinciding with World Children’s Day, which observes The Declaration of the Rights of the Child—and I encourage participants to work on setting up an annual convention-style event to take place on this date.
